Water Purification and Different information on water and its test

Water Purification

 Water Purification

Ø          Earth Land - Water Ratio: - Water 71%, Land 29%.

Ø         Out of 71%, only 3% water is available for drinking.

Ø         Water makes up 60% of a person's body weight.

Ø         Keeping cells alive, transporting body fluids, metabolism of food, keeping body temperature cool,       excretion are the major functions of water.

Ø        Safe drinking water - Water should be free of germs.  It should be clean (colorless, transparent, not     turbid), not salty, not smelly, not odorless, not harmful, water free from chemical pollutants.

 Measurement of water

Ø       Round well formula - Diameter class 4 Water depth x 785 = Total liters of water (in all measured   meters)

Ø      Square well / tank formula: - Length x width x Water depth (height) 5 1000- Total liters of water.  Water Purification (in all measured meters): 5 g TCL for 100 liters of water  Using powder.

TCL Powder

Ø      Lara Farm - Troprical Chloride of lime

Ø     Formula – CaOCL2

Ø     Currently only TCL powder is used for public water purification.

Ø    TCL, the powder itself is called bleaching powder.

TCL powder type

Ø     grade-1- contains 36% chlorine.

Ø     Grade - It contains 33% chlorine.  Always use at least 33% chlorinated TCL powder for water purification.  Powders with at least 20% chlorine also work.

Water tests

Ø     longform - orthotolidine

Ø     contains free chlorine in the water.

Ø     Half an hour after purification O.T.  Should be taken.  (30 min.)

Ø     0.2 to 0.5 ppm in water.  As much as O.T.  Must come.

Ø     When water containing TCL is tested, the water in the test tube turns 'yellow'.

Ø     If TCL powder is added to the water, it turns brown / red.

Ø     OT usually lasts 6 to 8 hours in water.

HPSF purification

Ø      4inch diameter HPSF - is done in 500 ml (1/2 liter) of water with 150 g of TCL powder.

Ø      HPSF of 6inch diameter is made by taking 300 gms of TCL powder in 1 liter of water.

*         Mother solution (distributed through school) is taken in 1 liter of water with 200 g of TCL       powder.  Mother solution (distributed through school). 200 liters of TCL powder in 1 liter of     water
