General Information on AIDS

(1) Longform - Acquired, Immuno Deficiency, Syndrome

(2) Definition - The combined group of many symptoms obtained due to lack of immunity is 'S'. 

(3) AIDS is HIV.  This is a disease caused by a virus.  The Human Immuno Deficiency Virus

(4) AIDS virus was discovered in 1983 by scientists Dr. Luke Mattiger (French) and Dr. Robert Gallo (American).

(5) In the world in 1981.  The first AIDS patient was found in the United States.

(6) The first HIV positive patient was found in Madras, India in 1986.

(7) The first AIDS patient was found in Mumbai, India in May 1986.

(8) The highest number of HIV positive patients in the world.

major route of transmission

  • *      with HIV infected person  Unprotected sex 
  • *      HIV.  If the infected person's blood or blood components are given to a healthy person.  (Blood Transfusion)
  • *      HIV If used needles / syringes are used again without disinfecting the infected deer. 
  • *      AIDS is not transmitted from an HIV-infected pregnant mother to her unborn baby (through the placenta) (shaking hands with an HIV-infected person, kissing, sitting together, eating together, living together).


More common symptoms of AIDS

(1) more than 10% weight gain,

(2) persistent fever, night sweats.  (Fire for more than 1 month) Car

(3) Persistent diarrhea and no cure with any medicine,

(4) Scars in mouth, esophagus,

(5) Swelling of lymph gland lasting more than 3 months, severe symptoms  : -

  •       Pneumonia
  •          Meningitis
  •          Herpes
  •          Various types of cancer
  •          Tuberculosis Session period - 5 to 8 years / Generally (sometimes 8 to 10 year


AIDS diagnostic tests

(1) ELISA test HIV  .  The primary diagnosis of infection is.  Available everywhere, it can be negative during the window period (up to 5 months).  So this test has to be done again after 3 months.

 (2) Western Blot is a 100% sure test.  If the ELISA test is positive, HIV infection can be confirmed with this test. 

(3) P.C.R.  (E.C.R Test) The world's most advanced / advanced test, DNA.  Check.  Infection can be diagnosed on the third day. 

  •          March 1985 - Availability of ELISA test
  •          July 1987 - Zidovudine is available for AIDS treatment
  •          AIDS drugs - Zidovudine, (Nevarpin) are all drugs that only kill the virus and extend the lifespan of the festival. 
  •          HIV to a baby from an infected pregnant woman.  Free anti-retroviral therapy is currently being offered in rural hospitals to prevent the spread of H. pylori infection.  (Anti Retroviral Therapy Treatment)
  •     AIDS vaccine is not yet available. 
  •  (Research continues) - Prevention is the real cure for AIDS.
